Earth 8
Process:
I like to challenge myself. Because I wanted to portray fire or water, I decided to see if I could do anything that looked like ‘earth’. I did a series of sample tiles to see ‘what would happen if’… selected those I liked the best, & combined the results into this piece.
Materials:
Powdered BE glass in ‘earth’ colors plus mica; sifted, layered, & sculpted dry, atop BE 0100-31. Fired five times.
Statement:
It was fun to make up my own topography & my own earth. I ended up making a series of these that is yet to be finished. The snow capped mountains are representative of the three mountains in my area. The ridge between them could’ve been a river, but I wanted a more sculpted look. The next one will have more dimension, but I’m out of time for now.

Linda,
Nice use of the technique. I want to reach out and touch the mountain ridge and forest. I can totally tell which three mountains are represented. Of course living in Washington makes it a bit easier.
Nicely done!

what a neat idea…i would have never attempted this in glass..good job
Hi Linda,
everytime I look at your tile, I think that someone on the space statioe – looking down on us – took a picture of the Washington State coast line. A can hear the waves hitting the reef.
Linda,
I like this piece. I see a graceful figure dancing too.
